Troubleshooting Exchange Activesync and Outlook Mobile Access

I recently watched the below webcast on Activesync.  It was very informative and had lots of great detail.  Below are my notes after watching that Webcast.

Open ActiveSync information for a given user

Open as a “Web Folder” using Internet Explorer (File>Open....check the "Open as Web Folder" checkbox)

  • Attribute: MSExchOMAAdminWirelessEnable
  • Otherstuff:
  • MSExchangOmaAdminExtendedSettings

  

PPC 2002

  • SSL is hard coded
  • Performs validation
  • Can disable or use "AddRootCert" utility to add a cert

PPC 2003

  • SSL is optional

Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access errors occur when SSL or forms-based authentication is required for Exchange Server 2003

Common Issues:

  • Forms Based Auth on BE Server
  • Required SSL on /Exchange vdir on BE Server
  • Certificate Trusted Root on on device
  • Different certificate name in URL to Exchange
  • Wrong Cert installed on ISA Server (or no cert installed)

Device Error Codes

  • Dev
  • MIS
  • SYNC
  • HTTP
    • 403 - User does not have permissions to Sync.  SSL is required on /Exchange Vdir.
    • 500 - Point to Exchange Virtual Directory has a problem.
    • Also points to user Mailbox Naming Issues.
      • SMTP:Hol@nwtraders.com
      • smtp:holly@contoso.com (M: Drive points to this one.)
      • Issue is in the "Left/Right" naming
      • Add another Proxy Address in the Registry
  • CONNMGR
  • INTERNET
  • INT
    • 7 - DNS Problems
    • 29 - Certificates
    • 45 - Certificate Trusted Root not on device
